2024 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award Winner:

Margaret Stevenson is Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of Law and Society at Kenyon College. She earned her Ph.D. in social psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, with minors in both statistics and research methods, as well as psychology and the law. Dr. Stevenson has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and her research interests are aimed at exploring the experiences of children and marginalized populations within legal systems through methodologically rigorous research rooted in social psychological theory. She co-led the  2021 American Psychological Association Resolution, calling on psychologists to dismantle systemic racism within the criminal legal systems. Her recent Oxford University Press edited books, "Criminal Juries in the 21st Century: Psychological Science and the Law" and "The Legacy of Racism for Children: Psychology, Law, and Public Policy," address racial discrimination within legal systems, particularly for children.

Previously, Stevenson was a faculty member at the University of Evansville from 2008 until 2021, where she also served as director of the Honors Program. She currently serves as President of the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 37’s Section on Child Maltreatment. She has received several awards for her research, including the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 37 and Division 37’s Section on Child Maltreatment Early Career Awards, First Place Dissertation Award from The American Psychology and Law Society (APA Division 41), APA Division 37 Section on Child Maltreatment Dissertation Award, and APA Division 37 Dissertation Honorable Mention. Dr. Stevenson was awarded five teaching awards at the university or college level and was the 2024 recipient of the Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in the Field of Psychology and Law Award from APA Division 41.
