The SPSSI Policy Preconference Workshop will take place on June 26, 2025, immediately preceding the SPSSI Summer Conference, which begins on Friday, June 27, and ends on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Programming will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude by 4:00 PM, allowing attendees to explore Portland and connect with colleagues over dinner. Breakfast and lunch are included as part of the registration fee.
The Preconference Workshop is being planned by the SPSSI Policy Director, in collaboration with SPSSI’s Policy Committee, SPSSI Leadership, and other SPSSI members.
This year’s workshop, "Navigating the Research-to-Policy Pipeline: How the Pros Get Evidence to Policymakers," will equip scholars with the practical skills, strategies, and insights needed to translate their research into actionable policy impact. Participants will learn how to:
- Identify policy-relevant research questions.
- Develop specific, evidence-based and actionable policy recommendations.
- Communicate research effectively to policymakers and identify the right communication tools for their specific goals
- Build partnerships with policymakers, advocacy groups, and community organizations
Through interactive sessions, hands-on exercises, and expert-led discussions, attendees will create concrete policy products and leave with an individualized plan for engaging in policy work that they begin executing right there in the room. This will be a working session! Participants should bring their laptops or other decises they can work on.
Program is subject to change. Additional details on the program will be posted as they become available.
Importantly, if you have already registered for the 2025 SPSSI Conference in Philadelphia, you can still register for a preconference workshop.
