The SPSSI Policy Preconference Workshop will take place on June 20, 2024, immediately preceding the SPSSI Summer Conference, which begins on Friday, June 21 and ends on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Typically, the preconference breakfast begins at 8:30 AM and the programming begins at 9:00 AM. Programming typically ends by 4:00 PM so that attendees can have dinner on their own. Breakfast and lunch are included as part of the programming and reflected in the registration fee.

The Preconference workshop is being planned by the SPSSI Policy Director in collaboration with the SPSSI's Policy Committee, SPSSI Leadership, and other SPSSI members.

In keeping with the theme of this year’s Summer Conference, the Policy Workshop Preconference will focus on strategies and skills for scholars wishing to participate in policy and advocacy efforts that center diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) as an essential goal of effective public policy. Workshop participants should expect to learn from scholars engaging in policy work in diverse environments, connect with other scholars for support and shared knowledge, discuss strategies for promoting DEIJ and other policy goals within the context of their targeted policy landscape, and practice critical skills for communicating social science research to policy stakeholders. By the end of the workshop, participants will be prepared to support policy initiatives at various levels of governments and institutions that deliver diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

The Policy Workshop will be held in Ballroom E at the Philadelphia Marriot Old City.
